CATHERINE ANDERSON, "Dress Whites" (Photography)*

June will be the month to see the winking eye of a hooting owl, along with
other flora and fauna when Catherine Anderson is the featured photographer
at Crowfield Golf & Country Club. Anderson just returned from Tokyo on a
photo assignment...and most recently she won the coveted "Best of Show"
award at the Charleston Artist Guild's winter show. In addition to her
nature scenes, she's well known for her artistic portraiture and
architectural photography.
When she was just eight years old, Anderson received her first camera as a
Christmas present. Of course in those days it was film, not digital, and
it was a fully manual camera with no automatic settings at all. She says "I
had no idea what terms like 'aperture' and 'depth of field' meant, but I
knew immediately that I had fallen in love. I used that camera, gradually
learning its nuances, until it literally wore out in 2005. At that time my
husband and I were planning a six-month cross country trip to visit
America's beautiful national parks as well as Baja California in Mexico.
Although I first sought to simply replace my much-beloved camera, I decided
to go digital - and have never looked back."
Ms. Anderson became serious about her photography during that trip,
studying famous artists such as Ansel Adams, Man Ray, Edward Curtis, and W.
Eugene Smith. The influences of some of these outstanding photographers can
no doubt be seen in her work. She discovered a love for both color and
black & white, and the myriad of shades in between.
20 or more of Anderson's photos will be displayed and for sale during the
whole month of June at Crowfield Golf & Country Club, 300 Hamlet Circle,
Goose Creek, SC. For examples of her work, visit
