I am a life long resident of Dorchester County and I will not be voting for
Heyward Hutson on June 10th. You see, he is a champion of lost causes and
his supporters will say most anything to get him re-elected. The latest
claim by his supporters is that he will work to stop the extension of the
Berlin Myers expressway, a project that has been on the books for twenty
years. All DOT right of ways have been obtained - there is no way this
project is not moving forward, unless Mr. Hutson plans to sabotage
Dorchester County's application for the road funding with the State
Infrastructure Bank.
When my late father, John Tupper, Sr., was the chairman of the Board for
the YMCA, Mr. Hutson fought the downtown expansion of the Y in Summerville
every step of the way. Ultimately, he was unsuccessful. However, he cost
the Y money and time to preserve a building which had outlived its
usefulness. Again, he was a champion for a lost cause that cost him
nothing to fight and cost the YMCA resources, time and energy.
Mr. Hutson was recently the lone dissenting vote on a House Bill that
passed 108 to 1. Not only did he vote against the bill, he insulted
another Representative on the House Floor during the vote. This is not the
type of person we need representing us in Columbia.
Mr. Hutson is so concerned about putting Dorchester County back 40 years,
when we need elected officials who will work to solve problems and improve
our quality of life in the next 40 years. Mr. Hutson is now 72 years old
and does not have time to earn the seniority it takes to get things done
for Dorchester County, it is time for him to retire. Please join me in
voting for Jenny Horne on June 10th. She is a professional who will work
hard to get us money for badly needed road projects without insulting and
alienating people we need to help us make things happen in Dorchester and
Charleston Counties.
Sincerely,
Jack Tupper (John M. Tupper, Jr.)
