The Summerville Storm youth track & field team held their season opener
mini-meet May 17th at the Summerville High School track. The Storm
competed against the Mt. Pleasant youth team as well as some members from
Midland Elementary. The meet consisted of field and track events.
Field events included the long jump and shot put. The Storm girls
dominated the long jump, placing first in 4 out of the 5 age groups.
Kristen Burgess of the Storm scored the longest jump at 15'. The Storm
boys fared just as well, also placing first in 4 out of the 5 age groups.
Storm team member, Davon Anderson scored the longest jump on the team with
a measurement of 16'-4-1/2". He was a close second behind Mt. Pleasant
team member Desmon Venning who scored a jump of 16'-5-1/2". In the shot
put, the Storm girls again placed first in 4 out of the 5 age groups.
Stacee Roberts of the Storm scored the longest shot put distance at 38'.
The Storm boys finished first in 4 of the 6 age groups with Terrence Thomas
scoring the longest distance for the Storm boys with a distance of 30'-9-
1/2".
Track events included a 1500 meter, 400 meter and 100 meter race. In the
1500 meter event, the Storm came out ahead in 2 of the 5 age groups with
Ethan Ruckel of Mt. Pleasant finishing with the lead time of 4:32. Josh
Taylor of the Storm followed close behind with a time of 4:34. In the 400
meter event, both Mt. Pleasant and the Storm had first place finishes in 5
of the 11 age groups with Midland Elementary placing first in the sub-
bantam girls division. The Storm dominated the 100 meter event finishing
first in 7 of the 9 age groups. The Storm's Michael Thomas scored the
fastest finish in this event with a time of 11.33.
It looks like the Storm is off to a great season. The next meet is
scheduled for Saturday May 31st against Mt. Pleasant. The meet will be
held at the Wando High School track and will begin at 9:00 a.m. Ribbons
will be awarded to the top 6 in each event. So come on out and support the
Storm.
