Exploring the Landscape of Slavery 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
Tying in with the Gibbes Museum's "Landscape of Slavery" exhibit opening
May 3rd, this in-depth guided tour will explore existing landscape
features, archaeological sites, maps, and documents, to reveal the actual
landscape of slavery as it existed centuries ago. Oral history from Drayton
Hall's African-American population will provide additional insights and
commentary on the roles and contributions of the enslaved people to the
plantation complex. This program, developed and led by Drayton Hall's Craig
Tuminaro, Director of Interpretation, and Carter Hudgins, Manager of
Preservation Programs, offers visitors an exceptional opportunity to expand
their knowledge in a format that facilitates inquiry. As such, walkabouts
are limited to groups of 15; light refreshments will be provided. Tickets
are $25 for adults; free to Friends of Drayton Hall. Call (843) 769-2638
for information and reservations.
