Global Aeronautica recently became a sponsor to The Palmetto House. This
family oriented local company held their 2nd Annual Family Day in July
2008. The company decided to make a day of fellowship, friends and family
while also hosting some fun activities to benefit the local Palmetto House
Homeless Shelter. "A Dunk Tank Filled with Water" and everyone's "Favorite
Manager in the Tank" was not only fun, but also raised $ 367.00 that was
donated to support and help those in need at the Palmetto House.
Global
Aeronautica was established as a particle assembly plant for the new Boeing
787 DreamLiner in December 2006. The company was formed jointly by Aleina
Aeronautica North America. They are owned by Aleina with corporate
headquarters in Rome, Italy. The other half owner is Vought Air Craft, of
Dallas, Texas.
Global Aeronautica assembles four parts of the airplane, two
of which come from Italy out of the Aleina manufacturing plant and the
other two parts come from Kawasaki Heavy Industries and FUJI Heavy
industries of Japan. The parts are transported from these plants to
Charleston, via a converted 747. There are three of these planes. The
Boeing company owns the transport planes and has titled them the "DREAM
LIFTER". In June of this year Boeing purchased the 50% ownership of Vought
and now it is still Global Aeronautica but co-owned by Aleina and Boeing.
There are currently just over 1000 employees from Kawasaki, Fuji, Boeing,
Plantec and Aleina who are here until 300 local employees are properly
trained.
