I have discovered what I believe to be the best place to de-stress, unwind
and refresh in Summerville. You need look no further for the most relaxing
and rejuvenating hour of your week.
Emerald Oceans Massage of Summerville, is owned and operated by a woman I
call a master of touch, Michelle Vickers. Michelle is well educated and
certified. She has more than a dozen diplomas and certifications in
massage therapy and related components. Her office wall is covered with
them. She is NCBTMB (National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage
and Bodywork) Certified. In order to become certified, one must
demonstrate mastery of core skills and knowledge, pass an NCBTMB
standardized exam, uphold the organization's Standards of Practice and Code
of Ethics, and take part in continuing education.
Michelle is also a certified Reiki Master. Reiki is a Japanese technique
for stress reduction and relaxation that promotes healing. It is
administered by "laying on hands." The word Reiki is made of two Japanese
words - Rei which means "God's Wisdom or the Higher Power" and Ki which is
"life force energy." A treatment feels like a wonderful glowing radiance
that flows through and around you. Reiki treats the whole person including
body, emotions, mind and spirit creating many beneficial effects that
include relaxation and feelings of peace, security and wellbeing. Reiki is
a simple, natural and safe method of spiritual healing and self-improvement
that everyone can use. Michelle offers training and classes in Reiki.
Reiki has been effective in helping virtually every known illness and
always creates a beneficial effect. It has also worked in conjunction with
all other medical or therapeutic techniques to relieve side effects and
promote recovery. I am looking forward to experiencing one of these
classes soon and discovering a new way to better my health.
Michelle is already well known and appreciated; as she is the massage
therapist for the Charleston Rugby Team. She began her practice at the
Woodlands and currently gives massage therapy at Middleton Gardens. She
has even used massage to help burn victims of Shriners Hospital and
currently still does.
The massage I received was amazing. It was one of the best massages I have
ever received. One of my favorite aspects was the fact that Emerald
Oceans Massage is in a facility all by itself. Many other facilities I
have experienced have the background noise of nail or hair dryers, slamming
doors, voices, etc... None of this was here. It was just you, the massage
therapist and soothing background sounds. I nearly melted into the
massage table. She works balancing the front and back of the body.
This was especially evident as she was working all the kinks and stresses
from my shoulders.
She used a mayofascial technique, an effective hands-on technique that
provides sustained pressure to eliminate pain and restore motion. Fascia is
the connective tissue that surrounds all muscles. Myofascial massage is a
gentle form of sustained stretching that releases muscles from the fascia
to help in the process of restoring the body's health. In the normal
healthy state, the fascia is relaxed and has the ability to stretch and
move without restriction. When it is injured, It becomes tight, restricted
and a source of tension to the rest of the body. Through the mayofascial
technique, movement, strength, flexibility and posture all improve.
