The Junior Service League of Summerville is proud to announce the start of
their 21st year of community service. In 1988, Beth Mills and 11 local
women organized the League to provide volunteers and funding for community
programs concentrating on the areas of children, family and recreation.
Membership in the JSL has grown in the past 20 years from 12 members to 49
active members, 39 first-year provisional members, and 156 sustaining
members. Last year, Junior Service League members logged over 3000
volunteer hours and are on track to break that record with the largest
provisional class in League history.
Over the past 20 years, the Junior Service League raised over $360,000 for
the Summerville community, including $30,000 for the Gahagan Park project
in 1998. The JSL holds three annual fundraisers to support local non-
profit organizations: Scarecrows on the Square, Ghostwalk, and the John
Tupper Flowertown Golf Classic.
Dates for the annual fundraisers have been set for the League's 20th year
of service. Scarecrows on the Square: October 18-November 2, 2008;
Ghostwalk: October 25, 2008; John Tupper Flowertown Golf Classic: April
25, 2009. For more information on these events as well as on the League in
general, visit www.SummervilleJSL.com.
The Junior Service League of Summerville is dedicated to reaching out to
