Ken Burger Prostate Challenge:
Register Now To Compete in Sept. 9th Event
The community is invited to take part in the Burger Prostate Challenge to
be held Tuesday, September 9th at 6:30 p.m. at West Ashley High School's
football stadium, 4060 W. Wildcat Boulevard. Presented by Roper St.
Francis Cancer Center and Piggly Wiggly grocery stores, this event offers
the opportunity to compete against Post and Courier sports editor and
columnist Ken Burger in a variety of sports challenges.
"I'm really looking forward to this event," said Burger. "It should be an
evening of fun that will help spread the word to men of all ages about a
serious disease."
The event, which is designed to focus attention on prostate cancer during
National Prostate Cancer Awareness Month in September, will feature the
following activities: Fastest 40-yard Sprint, Longest Place Kick, Longest
Punt, and 50-yard Chip Shot through the stadium's goal posts.
Prostate cancer is the most common non-skin cancer affecting men in
America. Currently one in 6 men will develop prostate cancer in their
lifetime. Last year Burger was diagnosed with prostate cancer and has been
waging a successful battle against the disease.
Registration is $25 for participants with all proceeds benefiting the Roper
St. Francis Foundation and the Ken Burger Prostate Cancer Fund. The event
is free for spectators.
A special tailgating menu will be offered from 6:30 - 7:30 p.m. courtesy of
Piggly Wiggly along with free health assessments and information provided
by Roper St. Francis Healthcare.
At Roper St. Francis Cancer Center, patients are offered a comprehensive
team approach, including state-of-the-art technology for diagnosis and
treatment, participation in ongoing clinical trials and access to a wide
range of cancer-related education and support services. Roper St. Francis
Cancer Center has been awarded Accreditation with Commendation by the
American College of Surgeons' Commission on Cancer. Three-year
accreditation is bestowed on only the finest programs in the country with
just 25 percent of hospital cancer programs in receipt and a smaller subset
receiving commendation.
